Defining Single Test Inquiry

When tuning critical geometries or troubleshooting print anomalies, adjusting multiple slicer settings simultaneously obscures root causation. In this practice module, define an explicit single inquiry—such as evaluating how extrusion multiplier affects thin-wall cohesion—while holding speed, acceleration, and temperature entirely static.

Core Rule: Single Hypothesis Constraint A single physical specimen must solely answer whether a discrete slice setting modification produces a measurable dimensional or structural delta.
  • State baseline machine speed and cooling envelope
  • Define acceptable variance limit (e.g. ±0.05 mm)
  • Pre-fill documentation ledger before starting printer

Common Testing Scenarios & Troubleshooting

Lock the print speed at an intentionally low feedrate (below 45 mm/s) to ensure the hotend melt zone is not flow-constrained, allowing pure thermal bonding changes to be recorded.

Abort the trial immediately. Reset to the known golden baseline profile, document the dual-failure occurrence in the log, and re-isolate the primary mechanical vector.
